The rebates, and who they're for

Which ones apply depends mostly on how your home is heated now and on your household income.

National Heat Pump Rebate (federal)

$2,000 or up to $10,000

  • Up to $10,000 for eligible below-median-income households. Above-median households may get $2,000.
  • For owners of homes now heated by electricity, natural gas, oil, propane, diesel, coal or wood.
  • Applications open online in early 2027. Heat pumps installed from November 1, 2026 may qualify when you apply.
  • The heat pump must be on the eligible product list, and bought from and installed by an HVAC contractor.

BC Hydro Home Renovation Rebate

Up to $4,000

  • $4,000 for whole-home heating, or $1,500 for partial-home heating.
  • The heat pump must replace a primary all-electric system, such as electric baseboards or an electric furnace.
  • The install must be done by a Home Performance Contractor Network member. Apply within six months of the invoice date.
  • Income-qualified households can apply for enhanced CleanBC rebates instead: up to $13,000 for a ground-oriented home, using an Energy Savings Program registered contractor.

These programs are run by the Government of Canada, BC Hydro and CleanBC, and they decide who qualifies. Federal rules are still being finalized and may change, and no federal funding is guaranteed until your application is approved. The Prime Minister's announcement says the federal rebate can be combined with existing provincial programs. Details checked November 2026.
